Direct Marketing Plan Examples

"I know you need a marketing plan, but I'm not sure where to start. And frankly, I do not have time to stop and find out." This comment not recently made by a client is typical of the dilemma facing many small business owners. We know we need a marketing plan, but the idea of taking the time to write one can seem overwhelming.

A marketing plan need not be complicated. It better start with a simple written plan for you may continue, modify and track that wheel until it has time to produce a full scale marketing plan. A written plan will provide a simple guide work, clearly define your goals and organizing all these brilliant ideas floating in his brain. This plan will also serve as a starting point when choosing to write a broader level.

Using the six step process to create the Marketing Plan

Step one: How come?

Clearly define your product, including features and benefits. Make a list of every product or service you offer and in each one, list corresponding benefits to consumers.

Write a clear and succinct USP, which describes how your product or service differs from its competitors.

Step Two: Who sold?

Create a detailed profile of clients:

If the market directly to consumers, list demographics: age, sex, lifestyle, location, preferences, interests, etc. Where? What to read? Listen? Watch?

If the market for companies, describes the ideal business client, including the size of the company, number of employees, gross sales, location, etc.

What do they want? What concerns and challenges faced, especially those that address product?

Make a note of any seasonal pattern here, as peak buying periods or slow times. Maybe bids good brainstorming can be added during the slow seasons to enhance and balance their cash flow.

Step Three: Say What?

Write a marketing message directed specifically to your target customer. Focus yourself on the benefits (not features) offered. Concentrate one thing: what is for them!

Step Four: Where are you now?

You need this as a benchmark for monitoring future.

Take note of current marketing activities, costs involved and, if possible, the revenue they generate.

Step Five: Where do you want to be and when?

Visualize your business one, two and five years from now. What do you think? Be specific. Consider what changes are must occur to achieve the future you want for this business.

Sixth step: How come?

Set specific marketing realistic goals. Plan how to measure results.

a) Decide which marketing strategies to be used, eg networking, cold calls, mailings, advertising, website, emails, promotional events. Select two or three you can use to implement their marketing.

b) a brainstorming the best tactics for each of the strategies you've selected. For example, if you chose networking as a strategy, the tactic could be to attend certain events in the week, review your marketing materials, 30-second commercial produced and hand.

c) allocate time and resources in dollars for each strategy you have chosen.

The work plan

Follow your plan, review periodically the progress, track results and modified when necessary. When something produces good results, stick with it. If not working, stop or adjust. When running a residential cleaning service, I discovered that my face a yellow page ad in the business occurred only during the summer months, when were already working at full capacity, while the postal discount coupons by mail to house the new owners aim at a fraction of the cost, led a steady stream of ideal clients. The results of the marketing decisions made tracking very easy.

When writing a step in a step each day or week soon will have a simple written marketing plan to guide it and ensure you get the best return on marketing dollars grows your company in the right direction.
